Nashik, Feb 18: Raj Thackeray-led MNS on Friday emerged as the single largest party, winning 40 out of the total 122 seats in the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC).
The party is, however, far off the halfway mark required to control the civic body, which is currently ruled by the Shiv Sena-BJP combine.
The voting to elect a new general body of NMC was held yesterday and the counting took place today. Congress and NCP, which had formed a pre-poll alliance, won 15 and 21 seats respectively.
Shiv Sena bagged 19 seats, while its ally BJP emerged victorious in 13.
RPI (Ambedkar) got two seats, while RPI (Athawale) won one. Independents and others accounted for 11 seats.
Mayor Naina Gholap (Sena) and her Deputy Devyani Pharande (BJP) were declared elected from their respective wards.
Former Sena Mayor Vinayak Pandey and his wife Kalpana were also elected.
