Guna (MP), Apr 2: A 16-year-old girl, who had set herself ablaze after police allegedly did not take action on her complaint of rape by two youths, on Monday succumbed to injuries in district hospital, police said.
The victim had received 90 per cent burn injuries and was battling for life for five days at the hospital, they said.
The teenager was allegedly raped by Sonu Seharia (23) and Sonu Sen (20) on March 26 and they had threatened her of dire consequences if she disclosed the matter to anyone.
The victim's family had alleged that she was upset as the cops at Barkhedagird police station did not take any action when the girl, along with her mother, approached them after the incident.
Police, however, denied the allegations. The girl, a class VIII student, and daughter of a fruit vendor, set herself on fire on March 27, police said.
After the victim attempted suicide, police swung into action and arrested the accused duo. Meanwhile, local Congress leaders have demanded adequate compensation from government for the victim's family.
