Mumbai: A minor girl was killed yesterday after being run over by a vehicle in a housing society while she was playing at suburban Kandivali, the police said.
According to the Kandivali police, Mahek Sabara (9), a resident of Veena Santur building in the Mahavir Nagar area, was playing with other children this afternoon when a Toyota Fortuner driven by one Ganesh Singh, mowed her down.
The police arrested Singh for causing death due to negligence and said that accused did not appear to have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident.
“Mahek had bent to tie her shoelace while playing and hence Singh could not spot her.
She sustained grievous injuries on her head and was rushed to a nearby hospital where she was declared dead on arrival,” a Kandivali police official said.
Mahek's postmortem was conducted at civic run Bhagwati hospital and her body was handed over to her family for her last rites this evening.
“Singh's preliminary medical test revealed that he was not driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. However, his blood report is awaited,” the police said.
