Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati on Thursday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh soon after the Allahabad High Court verdict and requested the Centre to take immediate steps to resolve the Ayodhya issue.
Addressing a press conference soon after the verdict, Mayawati reminded the Centre about the Supreme Court's order on Oct 24, 1994 in Ismail Farooqui case in which the SC had said that the Centre shall be responsible for the management, administration and security of the dispute site along with the 67 acres of acquired adjacent land.
Mayawati said, the Supreme Court had then said that whatever the outcome of the title suit, the implementation shall be the responsibility of the Centre. “Now the entire responsibility is with the Centre”, Mayawati added.
“I have written to the Prime Minister saying that the Centre should immediately carry out its responsibility in Ayodhya”, said Mayawati. If the Centre does not take timely steps and if there is deterioration of law and order in UP, the Centre will be held responsible, Mayawati said.
The UP chief minister also warned mischief makers of stern action following the verdict.
