Raipur, Jan 18 : Suspected Naxalites fired at an IAF helicopter trying to airlift two injured CRPF jawans in the Maoist hotbed of Dantewada in Chhattisgarh today. Both the injured jawans later died.
According to preliminary reports, the helicopter was on a mission to airlift a few CRPF troopers when it was fired upon.
“The helicopter has been force landed at Tamelwada in Sukma district. One IAF man has been hit and the chopper has been cordoned off,” a senior security official said.
The helicopter had flown from the state capital Raipur and it had gone off the radar for nearly an hour creating a scare.
The chopper took off from Jagdalpur to airlift the two injured CRPF jawans, but later lost contact with Air Traffic Control.
Earlier, the Maoists had fired at a road opening party of Chhatisgarh Armed Force near Dornapal in Dantewada district, injuring two jawans.
