Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu may on Thursday announce Mangalagiri as the new capital of the state.
Sources said that the state government has almost decided that capital should between Vijaywada and Guntur region and a formal announcement in this regard is expected to be made by the Chief Minister inside the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
On Monday, the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet gave its nod for establishing the state capital between Vijayawada and Guntur. The decision came after a five-hour long meeting presided by the Chief Minister.
Suggestions and recommendations of the Sivaramakrishnan Committee were also discussed during the Cabinet meeting.
The five-member panel, headed by former urban development secretary K Sivaramakrishnan, in its report identified three sub-regions -- Vizag region, Rayalaseema and land along the proposed Kalahasti-Nadikudi railway line -- for the new capital.
