New Delhi: A 44-year-old-man has been arrested after two leopard pelts were allegedly seized from his possession, police said yesterday.
Police said that the accused has been identified as one Lokpal, a resident of Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh. According to police, the pelts had been brought from Mandi for sale in Delhi.
The accused was nabbed from outer Delhi's Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar on Thursday after the Anti-Robbery Cell of Delhi Police learnt that a man dealing in animal skin and body parts of endangered species would be coming there.
Officers of Crime Branch and those from the Wildlife Protection Department conducted the raid and arrested Lokpal, seizing two leopard skins from him in the process.
According to a senior police officer, the two pelts belonged to leopards which were approximately four and six years of age.
The accused was involved in poaching in Mandi district and would supply skins in Delhi and Gujarat, police added.
