This is not for the first time that Indian Railways has witnessed such a tragedy.
Here goes the timeline of major train accidents in India since year 2000:
March 20, 2015: Dehradun-Varanasi Janata Express got derailed near Raebareli Bachhrawan station in Uttar Pradesh. Nearly 38 people were killed and 150 were injured in the accident.
February 13, 2015: Eight bogies of Bangalore-Ernakulam Express got derailed near Hosur, Tamil Nadu. 10 people were reportedly killed in the accident while around 150 were injured.

December 16, 2014: Howrah-Gaya Express train rammed into a Bolero at an unmanned railway crossing in Patna killing five people while 3 were injured in the accident.
October 1, 2014: Krishak Express collided with Lucknow-Barauni Express near Gorakhpur. 12 people were killed in the accident and around 45 were injured.
June 25, 2014: Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express got derailed near Chapra in Bihar that killed 5 people.
May 26, 2014: Delhi-Gorakhpur Express rammed into a stationary goods train near Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. While 11 people were killed in the accident over 100 got were injured.
May 4, 2014: Around 18 people were killed when Diva-Sawantwadi Passenger train got derailed in Maharashtra. Over 124 people were injured in the accident.
February 17, 2014: 10 coaches of Nizamuddin- Ernakulam Mangla Express got derailed near Nashik in Maharashtra. 3 people were killed in the accident while 37 were injured.
January 8, 2014: Three coaches of Bandra Dehradun Express were gutted in fire near Surar. While four people died due to suffocation, five were injured in the accident.
August 19, 2013: Around 28 people were run over by the speeding Saharsa-Patna Rajyarani Express n Bihar's Khagaria district.
April 10, 2013: 11 bogies of Muzaffarpur-Yeshvantpur Weekly Express got derailed near Arakkonam in Tamil Nadu. One was killed while 33 were injured in the incident.
July 30, 2012: One of the coaches of the Chennai-bound Tamil Nadu Express caught fire near Nellore in Andhra Pradesh killing around 35 people.
May 31, 2012: Howrah-Dehradun-Doon Express got derailed near Jaunpur in UP killing seven people.
May 22, 2012: Atleast 25 people were killed when Bengaluru bound Hampi Express collided with a goods train in Anantpur in Andhra Pradesh.
January 11, 2012: Five were killed after the Delhi-bound Brahmaputra Mail collided with a goods train.
November 22, 2011: Atleast seven people were burnt to death after Howrah-Dehradun express caught fire in Jharkhand.
July 7, 2011: 31 people were killed after Mathura Chhapra Express rammed into a bus with 80 passengers at an unmanned railway crossing in UP.
May 22, 2011: A passenger train collided with a Bolero at at an unmanned level crossing near Madhubani station in Bihar killing 16 people.
July 19, 2010: Sealdah-bound Uttarbanga Express collided with Vanachal Express at Sainthia station in Bhirbhum district in West Bengal. Around 60 people were killed in the accident.
May 28, 2010: 13 bogies of Gyaneshwari Express got derailed in West Bengal which were later rammed in by a goods train killing over 148 people
June 16, 2004: Mumbai bound Matsyagandha express got derailed near Raigarh in Maharashtra killing 20 people while over 60 were injured.
July 2, 2003: 2 bogies along with the engine of a train got derailed on a bridge and fell on the vehicles crossing beneath the bridge. Atleast 22 people were killed in the accident.
June 22, 2003: 3 bogies of Karwar–Mumbai central Holiday Special got derailed in Maharashtra killing 53 while over 25 passengers were injured.
May 15, 2003: A passenger train in Punjab caught fire a stove blasted in the train killing 40 people while over 50 were injured.
June 3, 2003: 3 bogies of an express train got derailed in Maharashtra killing 18 people.
September 10, 2002: Delhi bound Rajdhani Express got derailed near Bihar killing over 120 people.
June 4, 2002: 34 people were killed after Kasganj Express rammed into a bus in UP.
May 12, 2002: Patna bound Shramjeevi Express got derailed in Jaunpur in UP killing 12 people.
June 22, 2001: Magalore-Chennai Mail got derailed and fell into the Kadalundi River in Kerala. 40 people were killed in the accident.
December 3, 2000: Howrah-Amritsar Mail got derailed in Punjab killing 46 while over 130 people were injured in the accident.
