Mumbai Rains: No respite from heavy downpour for next two days; IMD's high alert for July 6, 7 | Updates

IMD Director General Mrutunjay Mohapatra said an off-shore trough lies across the Gujarat and Maharashtra coast and low pressure over west Madhya Pradesh, resulting in heavy rainfall over Maharashtra and Gujarat.

The IMD has issued a 'red alert' for south Konkan, Goa and south central Maharashtra from July 6-8. It said heavy to very heavy rainfall is very likely at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places during this period.

It issued an 'orange alert' for north Konkan.

For north central Maharashtra, east Vidarbha and west Vidarbha, the IMD issued a 'yellow alert' for Wednesday and orange for Thursday and Friday.

There was a 'yellow alert' for the Marathwada region, forecasting heavy rainfall on Wednesday and the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a heavy rainfall alert for Maharashtra on Wednesday and the next two days, as state capital Mumbai continued to witness heavy downpour for the third consecutive day, resulting in a landslide near a chawl, water-logging at many places and traffic disruptions.

At least 12 hamlets were cut off after a bridge got flooded due to heavy rains and flooding in Maharashtra's Palghar district, an official said on Wednesday.

According to authorities, Pandartara bridge, which connects Usgaon in Vasai taluka, was inundated and submerged because of incessant rainfall in the region.

At least 12 hamlets in the region are cut off and the situation will remain so for a couple of days till the water recedes, they said.

Rain-related incidents were also reported in the neighbouring Thane district.

No relief was expected anytime soon as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy rainfall alert for several parts of Maharashtra, including the financial capital, for the next two days.

As Mumbai continues to be hit by heavy monsoon rains, CM Shinde gave instructions to the officers to work on the field. This will make it easier to control the situation. 

All the pits should be filled properly. There should be no accidents due to potholes. Fill the pits using a cold-mix pattern. Keep an eye on the flood situation. There should be no loss of life due to flood, people should be shifted to safer places, CM Shinde told officials.

Water-logging was reported near the Neelam Junction, Deonar, Mankhrud railway bridge, Everard Nagar, Antop Hill, Chembur, Dadar T T Junction, Hindmata junction, Sakkar Panchayat, Wadala, Kings Circle, Matunga, Kurla Kamani area and some other places, due to which traffic movement was slow.

Three people were injured after a landslide near a chawl in Mumbai on Wednesday, as the city continued to witness heavy rains for the third day in a row, with no respite to citizens as many low-lying areas were water-logged causing traffic disruptions, officials said. An aggrieved citizen in a tweet said they now need a boat to commute, instead of a car.

Due to floods in Maharashtra, so far 65 people have lost their lives this year. Total 24 districts Pune, Satara, Solapur, Nashik, Jalgaon, Ahemadnagar, Beed, Latur, Washim, Yavatmal, Dhule, Jalna,Akola, Bhandara, Buldhana, Nagpur, Nandurbar, Mumbai Sub, Palghar, Thane, Nanded, Amravati, Wardha, and Ratnagiri have been affected due to heavy rains.

Due to heavy rainfall while several tracks had been inundated, Mumbai local trains were delayed but didn't stop.

Mumbai's Chunabhatti area saw a landslide due to heavy rainfall. At least two people have been injured, and three houses got damaged.

A landslide occurred on a road leading to the Pratapgad Fort in western Maharashtra's Satara district on Wednesday following heavy rains, an official said. There was no report of any casualty and no one was trapped in the debris, the Public Works Department's executive engineer, Sanjay Sonawane, said.

The water level of Krishna and Varana rivers has increased in the Sangli district. It has been raining heavily in Pune since this morning and the district administration is on high alert.

Due to the torrential rains for two consecutive days, the water level of Panchganga river in Kolhapur district is significantly higher, due to which the water level of all the rivers of the district is increasing rapidly. With the river water spreading everywhere, direct connectivity to more than 40 villages has been cut off and alternate routes are being used. In the last 24 hours, 11 dam areas of the district including Gaganbavda taluka have received heavy rains.

According to the India Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in Maharashtra for the next 4 days. The regional weather department has warned of torrential rains till July 8 in some districts of Marathwada including Konkan and Madhya Maharashtra. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg districts.

Some low-lying places like Hindmata, and areas in Dadar and Sion, including the Gandhi Market and road number 24 in Sion, were inundated, forcing pedestrians to wade through the water and making it difficult for motorists to commute.

The Central Railway and Western Railway officials said the local trains were operating normally, but some commuters claimed the suburban services were running a little late.

Incessant rainfall was reported in Mumbai on Wednesday morning, after spells of heavy showers over the last two days, and citizens complained of water-logging in some low-lying areas of the city. An aggrieved citizen in a tweet said they now need a boat to commute, instead of a car.

Mumbai local trains have been hit due to rains. Waterlogging was seen on Mankhrud, Dadar, Mulund and Neelam junctions. Waterlogging was also seen at Deonar Chowki, Khar subway, Vakola chowki, and Bhoiwada Chowki.

According to the latest weather updates, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in expected over isolated areas of Maharashtra, especially Mumbai. A high tide of 3.94 meters is expected at 4:32 pm, and that of 3.88 meteres is expected at 4:49 pm today.

The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a yellow alert for Mumbai and an orange alert for adjoining areas like Thane and Palghar.

Rains picked up over parts of Mumbai on Wednesday morning, after a small break during the night. The Santa Cruz area recorded 204 mm rains, at 8:15 am this morning. 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted thunderstorm, lightning, and heavy rainfall over parts of Chandrapur and Gadchiroli districts in Vidarbha.
