Maharashtra: Lockdown extended till June 15, but relaxations introduced

The coronavirus-induced lockdown has been extended in Maharashtra till June 15. However, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said certain relaxations and restrictions will be enforced depending on the case tally of districts.

The coronavirus-induced lockdown has been extended in Maharashtra till June 15. However, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said certain relaxations and restrictions will be enforced depending on the case tally of districts. Meanwhile, Maharashtra recorded 18,600 coronavirus cases on Sunday, taking the tally of infections in the state to 57,31,815, while the death toll increased to 94,844 with 402 new fatalities. 

Recoveries outnumbered fresh cases, as 22,532 patients were discharged from hospitals, taking the number of recovered patients to 53,62,370, The number of active cases stands at 2,71,801. Maharashtra's recovery rate of COVID-19 cases is 93.55 per cent, while the fatality rate is 1.65 per cent. Currently, 19,98,976 people are in home quarantine and 12,981 are in institutional quarantine.

In municipal corporations or regions of districts with less than 10 per cent COVID-19 positivity rate and where the availability of occupied oxygen beds will be less than 40 per
cent, all the establishments/shops engaged in essential commodities and services that are presently opened from 7 am to 11 am can now remain open from 7 am to 2 pm, the government order said, 

For districts and corporations having more than a 20 per cent positivity rate and where over 75 per cent of oxygen beds are occupied, the borders of such districts will be
closed and no person will be allowed to enter or exit in such districts.

KEY POINTS

  • All essential shops that are currently allowed to operate between 7-11 am may be allowed to operate between 7 am to 2 pm. 
  • In the case of all non-essential shops (stand-alone shops and not inside shopping centers/malls), decision regarding the allowing of opening of such shops along with the time limit for the functioning of the same way may be taken by respective Disaster Management authorities. These, if allowed to open, however shall not be opened beyond that allowed for essential shops and shall not be allowed to open on weekends. 

  • Delivery of non-essential items along with essential items through e-commerce may be allowed in such districts.

  • Post 3 pm, there shall be restrictions on movement except for medical and other emergencies, or for home deliveries allowed under the order dated May 12, 2021. 

  • All govt offices, except those involved directly for corona work in the said districts can function with 25% attendance. Respective DMA may allow more than this percentage of attendance if concerned HOD requests so. In MCGM area, for GOI and GOM establishments, these permissions shall be granted by Chief Secretary of State of Maharashtra. 

  • Agriculture sector related shops may remain open till 2pm on weekdays. Respective DMA however may be extend this timing on weekdays or may allow for some period on weekends, taking into consideration the requirement of sowing season and in view of impending monsoon.

  • All govt offices, except those involved directly for corona work in the said districts can function with 25% attendance.
