Mumbai, Mar 20: Maharashtra Finance Minister Ajit Pawar today presented the state budget for 2013-14, hiking sales tax on liquor, tobacco and medicated cosmetics.
Country liquor will be costlier by Rs 15 per litre, while Indian manufactured foreign liquor will be costlier by Rs 60 per litre. Beer will be costlier by Rs 18 per litre.
Sales tax on tobacco products have been hiked from 5 pc to 12 pc. Sales tax on cigarettes has been hiked from 20 pc to 25 pc.
Sales tax on bidis has been hiked from 5 pc to 12 pc, while medicated cosmetics will be costlier due to hike in sales tax from 4 pc to 12 pc.
Rs 2 extra charge will be applicable for prime-time shows of movies.
Pawar has allocated Rs 2,716 cr for road development, Rs 150 cr for cctv cameras in Mumbai and Pune, Rs 1164 cr will be spent on dealing with drought situation, Rs 850 cr on water supply, Rs 200 cr on drinking water, Rs 7,000 cr on irrigation projects, Rs 3,665 cr on fisheries, Rs 477 cr on health services and Rs 452 cr on education.
