Hoshiarpur: Three persons were killed while forty two others sustained injuries when a luxury bus carrying them dashed against a tree at a T-point Panam near Garhshankar here this evening.
The incident took place when the bus driver lost control of the vehicle as its tyre got punctured. The bus then rammed into a tree killing three including the driver, police said today.
The bus was coming from Chandigarh and was headed towards Pathankot, they said.
The deceased have been identified as bus driver Sajjan Singh, resident of Deena Nagar (Gurdaspur), Varun Verma (22), son of Kush Verma of Pathankot. The identification of one deceased woman is yet to be done, police said.
All the injured bus passengers were admitted in Civil Hospital Garhshankar from where one passenger named Varsha has been referred to PGI Chandigarh under critical condition. Twelve passengers were discharged after given first aid while remaining were being treated in the hospital.
