Amethi : On a tour of his parliamentary constituency on Wednesday, Rahul Gandhi had his vehicle intercepted by an unexpected quarter -- two girls who came all the way from Lucknow to narrate their woes to the Congress leader.
When the Congress General Secretary was on his way to Sarvan village, two sisters -- Sonia and Shivani -- intercepted his car and told him about the harassment at the hands of their uncles after the death of their parents.
They were assured full help by Rahul in this regard.
The Congress leader, who arrived here on a three-day-visit, said that in Uttar Pradesh problems were being faced in implementing central schemes as the party was not in power in the state.
"The Centre is doing whatever is possible for agriculture sector and the poor, but in UP problems are being faced in implementing the schemes as the Congress does not have a government here," Rahul said while addressing a seminar organised by IFFCO.
He said there were two faces of India - the rich and the poor. "The basic difference between the two India is that while rich are getting opportunities, the poor are deprived of the same. My effort is to bring these two India together so that the country can progress," Rahul said.
He said all programmes of the Centre, whether Mahatma Gandhi NREGA or loan waiver, are poor and farmer oriented. "Our vision is that every person should get an opportunity."
Agriculture sector was the focus of the UPA government as whatever the country had developed it was due to the hardwork of farmers, he added.
Earlier, Rahul inaugurated Fibre To The Panchayat (FTTP) technique in Sarvan village in Bahadurpur area.
"Development of villages was the dream of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. We are trying to realise this dream," said Rahul, who was accompanied by Sam Pitroda, the Adviser to the Prime Minister on Public Information Infrastructure and Innovation.
The Congress leader said if farmers and poor are connected to the world through internet, it will open path of development.
Earlier, Rahul was accorded a warm welcome by his partymen when he arrived at the Amausi airport.
During his three-day visit, he will launch a number of schemes in his constituency. PTI
