Parliament HIGHLIGHTS: Elected leaders take oath as MPs in Lok Sabha

Lok Sabha session live updates: Pro-tem Speaker Bhartruhari Mahtab administered oath to PM Modi and presiding officers, Radha Mohan Singh and Faggan Singh Kulaste. Following this, he administered oath to other leaders. A total of 544 MPs will take oath in two days from June 24-25.

Lok Sabha session live updates: The first Lok Sabha session following the general elections started today. In the 18th Lok Sabha, the NDA holds a majority with 293 seats, while the BJP has 240 seats, just shy of the 272 majority mark on its own. The Opposition INDIA bloc has 234 seats, with the Congress holding 99 of them. The session witnessed the swearing-in of the newly elected MPs. Bhartruhari Mahtab took oath as the pro-tem speaker. He administered oaths to the members. However, the appointment of pro-tem speaker has been a bone of contention between the ruling party and the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc.
