Lok Sabha Elections 2024, phase 1: Final voting percentage to be out today post scrutiny of form 17A
Lok Sabha Elections: An approximate voter turnout of 61.06 per cent was recorded in Lok Sabha polls held on Friday in Nagpur, Ramtek, Bhandara-Gondiya, Chandrapur and Gadchiroli-Chimur in Maharashtra's Vidarbha region, though final figures will be updated by Saturday, an official said.
Lok Sabha Elections 2024, phase 1 voting: The National Democratic alliance (NDA) under Prime Minister Modi is seeking a stronger majority for a third consecutive term, while the constituents of the opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc are hoping for a rebound after facing reverses in the 2014 and 2019 elections. A voter turnout of nearly 63 per cent was recorded in the first phase of Lok Sabha elections covering 102 seats across 21 states and Union territories amid sporadic incidents of violence at some places and an accidental explosion of a grenade launcher shell in Chhattisgarh that left a CRPF jawan dead. The Election Commission said polling for the first and biggest phase of the seven-phase elections remained largely peaceful. The electoral battle featured prominent figures such as Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, Kiren Rijiju, Sarbananda Sonowal, Jitendra Singh, and Bhupender Yadav, along with contenders like Gaurav Gogoi from the Congress, Kanimozhi from DMK, and K Annamalai, the Tamil Nadu BJP chief. The southern region, with 39 seats from Tamil Nadu and one from Puducherry, dominated the first phase of polling. Apart from Tamil Nadu, voting is now concluded in various other states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, and Assam etc.
