Lok Sabha Elections 2024: EC issues show cause notice to TMC MLA for threatening voters, oppn party workers

The election campaign has intensified ahead of the second phase after Prime Minister Narendra Modi slammed the Congress party saying that if it comes to power, they will redistribute the country's wealth by conducting a survey of Hindu properties. The 'Grand Old Party' has reacted strongly.

Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The seven-phase Lok Sabha elections are underway in the nation. Voting for the first phase has already concluded while the second phase polling is scheduled for April 26. With just two days left for the second phase, political parties have intensified their campaigns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a rally in Chhattisgarh while Priyanka Gandhi Vadra is set to visit Bengaluru.     The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Tuesday issued a show cause notice to Trinamool Congress MLA Hamidul Rahman for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct by "threatening opposition party workers and voters", an official said. Acting on a complaint from Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, the poll body examined the transcript of the speech made by Rahman, TMC's Chopra MLA, in his constituency in Uttar Dinajpur earlier this month and asked him to respond to the show cause notice by 5 pm on April 25.

    Bihar: Congress fields Meira Kumar's son from Patna Sahib Lok Sabha seat

    Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar's son Anshul Avijit was on Tuesday named the Congress candidate from Bihar’s Patna Sahib seat. A communication to this effect was issued by AICC general secretary KC Venugopal. Named after the Sikh shrine situated at the place where Guru Gobind Singh was born, Patna Sahib has been a BJP bastion since the seat came into existence after the 2008 delimitation. The BJP candidate for the seat, where polling is scheduled in the seventh and last phase of Lok Sabha polls on June 1, is former Union minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, who had defeated actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha in the last general elections.
