Tirunelveli (TN) Sep 9 : A TADA court on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment all six accused in the 1994 murder case of Rajagopalan, the Tamil Nadu state president of Hindu Munnani, a religious and cultural organisation.
The special TADA court judge M Vijayaraghavan also slapped a fine of Rs 10,000 on each of the convicts.CBI special public prosecutor Suresh Subramanian argued the case.Before pronouncing the verdict, the judge informed the accused that they had been found guilty of the crime.
The accused argued they had already been incarcerated for more than 14 years and the case against them was foisted. They said CBI had done ‘grave injustice' to them and that they would appeal against the judgement.
They were later escorted back to Palyamkottai central prison under heavy security.Rajagopalan, was murdered on October 10, 1994 in front of his house by an armed gang.
In 1996, the government transferred the case to CBI, which filed a chargesheet in September 1997. The matter was pending before the designated TADA court here. PTI
