New Delhi: Very soon, milk adulteration will make the offender liable for a life term imprisonment. Making amendments in the Food Safety and Standard Act, the Central Government Wednesday told Supreme Court that it has appointed a committee to check the same.
In an affidavit filed by the department of health and family welfare, the government said that it is considering to make harsher penal provision for those who pollute milk. This is as per the Supreme Court's directions.
The appointed committee will work under the secretary of National Disaster Management Authority and it is expected to take final stance on the penalty by end of February.
Reportedly, Supreme Court has raised this concern of growing instances of milk adulteration nation-wide infront of the Central government and it insisted to provide punishment to people indulging in production and marketing of spurious milk.
Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Odisha have already made the offence punishable with life imprisonment.
