Sonitpur (Assam): Over one hundred heavily armed militants on Wednesday evening descended on a refugee camp housing nearly 500 displaced people on Arunacha -Assam border and fired indiscriminately killing ten people.

Seven of those killed have been identified as Maneshwar Burman, Ganesh Subba, Rupchand Munda, Himan Subba, Prabhat Subba, Bhalu Subba and Tamru Subba.

Eight people were critically injured. They have been admitted to the government hospital in Tezpur.

Army and police immediately cordoned off the area and began their search for the attackers.

The attackers came from Arunachal Pradesh on Bihali border.

Distraught eyewitnesses said, they were cooking food at the camp, when the militants in army battle dress came to the camp.

"They were wearing towels over their face. We ran for our lives. They went after us, and started killing people at random", an eyewitness said.
