New Delhi: The deadly Hindu- Muslim clashes on August 27, 2013 that claimed 65 lives had left the nation shocked.The attacks have been described the worst in the recent history of UP after the Babri Masjid demolition.The state government had organized relief camps for the victims in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts with over 50,000 living in the camps. Let's have a look at the tragic lives of those people: 1. In September, thousands fled their homes to take shelter in the camps organized by state government to provide relief to the Muzaffarnagar violence affected people. 2. More than 50,000 people had been provided shelters that were affected by the riots. The riots took place when three youths including one belonging to minority community were killed in an eve teasing incident. 3. A total of 4,783 people are still living in five relief camps in Muzaffarnagar and Shamli districts and have not displaced to their homes despite the government's coercion to vacate the camps. 4. The facilities in the campo are poor. They lack proper sanitation and drainage. 5. As many as 34 children from the relief camps had died since September 2013. Pneumonia, dysentery, fever and premature birth as causes for some of the deaths. 6. Many children died to cold. A 48 year old person had died two days ago due to the extreme cold.Few help groups have distributed blankets for the needy. 7. A number of women have alleged that they had been raped. A riot victim at a relief camp was allegedly raped by two youths at Jogya Kheri village in the Fugana area of the Muzaffarnagar district in November, 2013. 8. The state government is allegedly demolishing its camps and forcing the victims out to avoid constant media attention over the lack of medical and other facilities at the make-shift camps. 9. Many victims have refused to leave, fearing they may be cheated out of their compensation.
