New Delhi: Pakistani agencies were approaching victims of the Muzaffarnagar riots to lure them to terrorism were proven after the arrest of 2 Muslim clerics from Haryana.
The arrested clerics have alleged links to the terror outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba.
Muzaffarnagar riot victims told the Delhi police that the terror suspects tried to recruit men from the relief camps set up after the September communal clashes.
Some of the men who were allegedly approached refused to work for the Pakistan-based terror group and went to the Delhi Police instead.
The revelation supports Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi's comment at a rally in October that an intelligence officer had told him about Pakistani intelligence ISI trying to recruit young men whose families suffered in the Muzaffarnagar riots.
Delhi police's Special Commissioner of Special Cell told the media that the suspected operatives Mohd Shahid and Mohd Rashid had met Liyakat and Zameer, Muzaffarnagar residents in connection with mobilising funds for construction of a mosque.
