New Delhi: Public figures are always under scanner by the paparazzi. Every move of theirs is watched and noted. While they are given special treatment wherever they go, they have also come under attack in public.Here are some of the prominent Indian politicians insulted in public: 1. Shoe hurled at Haryana Chief Minister, Bhupinder Singh Hooda (Feb 16, 2014)A farmer allegedly hurled shoe at Bhupinder Singh Hooda, during an official function at Dabwali in state's Sirsa district. The shoe fell off the target. The man has been taken into custody. Earlier, a youth had slapped Hooda during a road show at Panipat. 2. Paint thrown at KejriwalA man threw black paint on Arvind Kejriwal while he was addressing a press conference. The man was a BJP worker. He threw black paint while Kejriwal was taking questions by the media. Kejriwal was explaining his stand on complaints made against him on Anna Hazare, suddenly the BJP activist threw black paint on his face and started shouting pro Hazare slogans. 3. Sharad Pawar slapped by a journalistAgriculture minister Sharad Pawar was slapped by a youth for price rise and corruption. Harvinder Singh, a local transporter slapped Pawar at a public auditorium on Parliament Street. Harvinder was put behind bars for a month post the incident. Even after the November, 2011 incident, he was threatened and thrashed by goons. He was once abducted in car and beaten and then thrown outside a hospital.4. Shoe thrown at P. Chidambaram On April 7, 2009, while finance minister P. Chidambaram was addressing a press conference, a journalist from Dainik Jagran hurled shoe at him. The man threw the shoe as he was offended by the answer given by Chidambaram on clean chit given to Jagdish Tytller in 1984 anti Sikh riots.Chidambaram replied that CBI had only presented a report to the court and it was up to the court to either accept or reject it.Jarnail Singh, the journalist was then released by police after brief detention. 5. Shoe hurled at Janardan Dwivedi A man tried to hit Congress spokesperson Janardhan Dwivedi with a shoe during a press conference at the party headquarters in New Delhi on 6 June, 2011. Sunil Kumar, a journalist from Rajasthan and claims to work for Nav Sanchar Patrika, hurled the shoe at Dwivedi and threatened him. It was reaction after Delhi Police ordered dismantle act against Yoga Teacher Baba Ramdev's Protest against Corruption.6. Shoe hurled at Manmohan Singh During an election rally, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh came under a shoe attack in Ahmedabad on 26 April 2009. A 28-year-old man made an attempt to throw a shoe at the Prime Minister while he was addressing the rally. The shoe landed a few meters away from Dr Singh. Soon after the incident took place, the young shoe thrower was taken away by the police. Dr Singh asked the police not to file any charges. 7. Slipper thrown at Naveen Jindal In April 2009, a schoolteacher hurled a slipper at Indian National Congress Lok Sabha candidate Naveen Jindal.8. Shoe hurled at B.S. Yedyurappa Another target of the footwear missile, BS Yeddyurappa came under attack when he was addressing an election meeting on 28th April, 2009. The incident took place while Yeddyurappa was campaigning for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Channarayapatna in Hassan district, around 150 km from Bangalore. The slipper fell far from the dais and the man who threw it was nabbed by police and charged with assault.The attacker was a drunkard.9. Lal Krishna Advani In April 2009, BJP worker Pavas Agrawal hurled a slipper at BJP leader Lal Krishna Advani. Agrawal was arrested for interrogation. 10. Omar Abdullah On 15 August 2010 a police officer hurled his brown leather shoe at Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Omar Abdullah. The chief minister was about to address a gathering organized on India's 64th Independence Day. The officer, identified as assistant sub-inspector of police, Abdul Ahad Jan later waived black flag shouting pro-freedom slogans against the Indian rule in the disputed territory. Abdullah's security men deported the officer out of the function venue.
