Know how to crack Combined Medical Services Examination

New Delhi: The Combined Medical Services Examination or the CMS Exam is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for recruitment as Medical Officer in various organizations. This exam is held for the posts of medical officer in various prominent organizations like Indian Railways, Indian Ordnance Factories Health Services, and Municipal Corporations of various states, Central Health services and NMDCs. The candidates are allowed to apply for more than one services mentioned above in order of their preference without any additional examination fee.Eligibility criteria for Combined Medical Services Exam1. You must have passed your medicine course (M.B.B.S) including practical examinations. Final year candidates, who are waiting for results can also apply for CMS examination. They must provide their certifications at the time of verification. This process takes place only after the announcement of written examination results. 2. You must be below 32 years in age as on 1st of January of 2014. Age relaxations are available for SC/ST/OBC categories as per the government norms of UPSC examination. 3. Nationality: A candidate must be either • a citizen of India or • Subject of Nepal or • a subject of Bhutan or • a Tibetan refugee who came over to India before the 1st January, 1962 with the Intention of permanently settling in India or • a person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka or Eastern countries of Kenya, Uganda, the United Republic of Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire and Ethiopia or • from Vietnam with the intention of permanently settling in India. • Provided that a candidate belonging to categories (b), (c), (d) and (e) above shall be a person in whose favour a certificate of eligibility has been issues by the Govt of India. • A candidate in whose case a certificate of eligibility is necessary, may be admitted to the examination but the offer of appointment may be given only after the necessary eligibility certificate has been issued to him by the Govt of India. Union Public Service examination has released the examination calendar for the academic year 2014• Application deadline: 21.04.2014• Notification issued: 22.03.2014• Date of the examination: 22.06.2014 Scheme of examination: You must pass three hard stages namely • Written test• Personality test• Physical examinationThe questions asked in written examination are of objective type. There are two papers in written examination namely Paper I and Paper II. Each carries 200 marks. The total duration for written examination is four hours. You must share two hours for each paper.PAPER I It has two important topics. Topic I covers General Medicine including Cardiology, Neurology, Dermatology and Psychiatry. You can expect 60% of total Questions in paper I from this topic. Topic II covers Surgery including ENT, Ophthalmology, Traumatology and Orthopedics. You can expect the rest of the questions in Paper I from the second topic. PAPER II Paper II covers Pediatrics, Gynecology & Obstetrics, Preservative, Social, and Community Medicine. Among this, Pediatrics is given less importance as you can expect only 20% of questions from here. You can expect 40% questions from Gynecology & Obstetrics and the other 40% is from the rest of the topics. The medium of answering is English. After passing the written examination, you will be called for Personality test. It is otherwise known as interview. Your communication skills will be checked in this stage. Few technical questions will be asked. The total marks allotted for Personality test is 200. It is much easier to clear this round. Before you sit for the interview, try to brush up your fundamental subjects which you have already learnt in your medicine course. At the final, you will be admitted for physical examination. You must be physically fit enough to look after the job, you are appointed in.
