Khirki extension is a Little Africa in Delhi (in pics)

New Delhi: Narrow lanes, open landfills, artistic graffiti on walls, communities from every place living together is what describes Khirki extension bang opposite the mega shopping malls in Saket, south Delhi.Khirki extension has a lot of people from all backgrounds from labour class, middle class people working in corporates, nurses etc. Of late, it has become a hub of Africans who have been charged with running drug and sex rackets by Indian families living there.The place has been in the news for the recent midnight raid conducted by the Delhi law minister Somnath Bharti in the area to expose the African women who have been involved in the illegal practices.Let us explore the Delhi's corner which has been in the limelight: 1. The remote place is composed of tiny houses and narrow lanes, in contrast with the urban Saket mall behind Khirki extension. 2. Many houses have been given on rent to professionals and students who are working. 3. The place is a graffiti hub. One can see lot of beautiful art works on the walls 4. Laborers from different places also live here; they were usually living here for constructing the mall. 5. It is a cluster of unauthorized houses in which people live on cheap rents. 6. Many Africans also live on rent. Many landlords prefer to keep Africans as tenants as they pay higher rents. 7. However, Africans usually complain of ill treatment and racism by Indians. 8. The Africans living in the area are said to have been running drug and prostitution rackets by the Indian families. 9. Delhi's Law Minister Somnath Bharti, is the hero in the eyes of Khirki people as he raided the house of Ugandan women at midnight for running a drug and sex racket. The minister had conducted the raid without a search warrant and was involved in a feud with the police officer whom he said was not doing his duty to arrest those women. 10. It became a stand off between the Aam Admi Party and the Delhi Police. Delhi CM Kejriwal defended his counterpart by taking to streets and protesting at Jantar Mantar. 11. The dilemma with the place, Khirki has been the difference in the morality standards of the Indian communities and the Africans living there. This dilemma was taken advantage of by politicians through populist stunts.
