Lucknow: Election Commission today carried out massive administrative reshuffle by transferring 44 senior officers -- 22 district magistrates, three DIGs and 19 superintendents of police—in Uttar Pradesh.
Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said the EC posted new officers in these districts replacing the earlier ones.
Those transferred include District Magistrate of Mainpuri from where Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav is seeking re-election.
DMs of Deoria, Maharajganj, Mahoba, Mau, Meerut, Sambhal, Sant Ravidas Nagar, Sonebhadra, Amroha, Bahraich, Banda, Chitrakoot, Etah, Firozabad, Gonda, Jhansi, Kaushambi, Lalitpur, Pratapgarh, Rampur and Shahjanahpur have also been transferred.
The districts from where SPs have been transferred include Farrukhabad, from where Union minister Salman Khurshid is contesting as a Congress candidate; Ghaziabad, which will see a fight of stalwarts of various political parties and Sultanpur, where BJP has put up Varun Gandhi as its nominee.
Other districts which will have new police chiefs include Bahraich, Jaunpur, Jhansi, Mau, Siddhart Nagar, Aligarh, Allahabad, Balrampur, Banda, Chitrakoot, Etah, Fatehpur, Gonda, Pratapgarh, Rampur and Sant Ravidas Nagar.
The EC has also removed the DIGs of Banda, Gonda and Jhansi range, Sinha said.
Earlier last week, various political parties had apprised the Chief Election Commissioner during his visit to the state capital about their apprehensions of officials working in a partisan manner in order to assist the ruling party in the elections.
