Port Blair: Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands Lt Gen (Retd) AK Singh has ordered to set up an Enforcement Cell immediately to check on the operations of all tourist boats and safety of the passengers.
The cell will comprise police and representatives of shipping and the tourism departments, an official release today said, adding that the Chief Secretary has been directed to work out the modalities in this regard.
Separately, the Lt Governor has also asked for streamlining of all water sports activities, particularly with regard to safety of users.
Meanwhile, a condolence meeting in memory of the 21 persons who lost their lives in the boat tragedy on Sunday was held at the B R Ambedkar Auditorium here.
Singh and First Lady of the Islands Suneeti Singh led the islanders in paying homage to the departed souls.
