Mumbai/Ujjain/Puri, Jan 1 : There was a large turnout of devotees at the famous Jagannath temple in Puri, the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain and Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai ushering in the New Year with devotion.
As the gates of Jagannath temple in Puri were opened early this morning, there was a rush among devotees to enter the sanctum sanctorum and seek the blessings of the deities.
Bhasma-Aarti was performed at the Mahakaleshwar temple in Ujjain early in the morning in the presence of a large number of devotees chanting Har Har Mahadev.
Thousands of devotees stood in queues outside the Siddhivinayak temple in Mumbai to seek Lord Ganesha's blessings. The New Year Day coincides with Angaraki Chaturthi, and a temple official Mangesh Shinde said, he expected the number of devotees to run into lakhs during the day.
Devotees of Lord Ganesha believe their wishes will be granted if they pray on this particular day.
