Lakhimpur Kheri: Sidhu allowed to visit violence-hit district; cops put notice outside BJP minister's house
The Lakhimpur Kheri incident has triggered a major political storm with opposition parties accusing the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of shielding the culprits.
Lakhimpur Kheri Violence: The Supreme Court on Thursday asked the Uttar Pradesh government to explain who are the accused against whom FIR has been registered in connection with the October 3 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, in which eight people were killed, and whether they have been arrested. Meanwhile, the UP police made the first arrests taking into custody two people and also summoned Union minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, an accused, for questioning on Friday. A day after Congress leaders Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh to meet the families of the victims killed in violence, Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP's SC Mishra also travelled to their homes today. Navjot Singh Sidhu, who was earlier stopped at UP border near Saharanpur, was later allowed to visit the violence-hit district. The apex court has posted the matter for hearing on Friday (today). Eight people were killed in the violence on October 3 during a farmers' protest at Lakhimpur Kheri. The incident has triggered a major political storm with opposition parties accusing the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh of shielding the culprits.

Navjot Singh Sidhu granted permission to visit violence-hit district
The police have allowed Navjot Singh Sidhu, ministers and MLAs to go to Lakhimpur Kheri. Only, 20-25 people have been given permission to go. At present, 12-13 people are present in the outpost and the remaining 7-8 MLAs are at the border. They will also be brought to the police station and all will be taken to Lakhimpur Kheri, Cabinet Minister Amarinder Raja Vading said. All of them will go to Lakhimpur Kheri in their own vehicles. UP Police will escort them.

Union Minister's son Ashish Mishra has been named in an FIR in connection with the violent incident at Tikunia village in Lakhimpur Kheri for allegedly mowing down farmers who were protesting against UP Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya's visit to the Union minister's ancestral village for a function.
