Kot Lakhpat jail, the graveyard of Indian nationals

New Delhi: Sarabjit was arrested on the night of 28 August 1990 and was kept at Kot Lakhpat jail , on April 2013 at about 4:30 pm, He was allegedly attacked by six prisoners with bricks, sharp metal sheets, iron rods and blades here, On May 2, 2013, he was reported to have died in Jinnah hospital, Lahore.Kot Lakhpat jail is the same jail where Bhagat Singh was executed on March 23, 1931 along with Rajguru and Sukhdev, it is the Central Jail of Lahore. It is situated at at Rakh Chandra (Kot Lakhpat).Thus it is known as Kot Lakhpat Jail with reference to its location. The jail houses more than four times the 4000 prisoner capacity it was built for. Prisoners have been murdered in the prison in the past too.Bhagat singh has spent most significant part of his life here. He was arrested on April 8, 1929 from the Central Assembly in Delhi, where he and B.K. Dutt offered themselves to be arrested after throwing harmless bombs in the Assembly to ‘make the deaf hear.' They faced two trials. On June 14, after the conviction, Bhagat Singh was transferred to Mianwali and Dutt to the Lahore jail. Bhagat Singh was also shifted to Lahore jail after some time. He and Dutt were kept away from the other accused in the Lahore conspiracy case.On March 22, 1931, a day before his execution, Bhagat Singh read and wrote so much: one can only marvel at the explosion of talent at the age of 21 years-plus. March 23, 1931 was the day when three freedom fighters were hanged till death.When the three young men reached the hanging site, Bhagat Singh confidently said that people would soon see and remember how Indian freedom fighters bravely kiss death. They refused to wear masks over their necks.,his companions hugged each other for the last time, and shouted “down with the British empire”. Massih pulled the lever. Bhagat Singh was the first to hang. He was followed by Rajguru and Sukhdev.
