Know who is Davinderpal Singh Bhullar

New Delhi: Davinderpal Singh Bhullar, presently awaiting the deathman's noose is in a mental asylum in Delhi.Bhullar is said to be an ideologue of Khalistan Liberation Force, and was held guilty by the courts for triggering a major blast outside the Indian Youth Congress office in New Delhi in 1993. Nine policemen were killed in that blast and nearly 30 persons including the then Youth Congress chief Maninderjit Singh Bitta were injured in the blast. A graduate in electrical engineering from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana, Bhullar was also involved in several other bomb blats, including the attack on SSP Sumedh singh Saini in 1991. The Delhi High Court confirmed his death verdict in 2001. Bhullar fled to Germany in 1994 from where he was deported a year later. After 20 long years on incarceration in jail, Bhullar is now said to be a mental wreck.His wife Navneet Kaur Bhullar had told a newspaper that Bhullar "is very frustrated, under depression and even suffers from many illnesses." Navneet, in October last year, had appealed to the Centre to decide her husband's fate one way or the other.Bhullar had appealed against the death sentence in December 2001, but the appeal was rejected by a three-member bench of the Supreme Court.A review petition was filed in the Supreme Court in December 2002, questioning the legitimacy of the rejection of Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar's appeal. The review petition was heard by the same three judges, who upheld their original decision. Harvinder Singh Sarna, an official of Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, says, Bhullar is suffering from deep depression and showing suicidal tendencies. He has been shifted to a government-run mental hospital for treatment.
