The official was appointed chairman of Greater Noida and replaced by Yogendra Narain, widely believed to be a Joshi recommendation.

In Delhi, he had stints in various ministries like commerce, chemical & fertilizers and telecom.

He retired as telecom secretary and later became head of Telecom Regulatory Authority of India. He was at the helm of TRAI when 2G licences were given out.

As TRAI boss when the then telecom minister A Raja handed out telecom licences in 2008 on a first-come first-served basis at 2001 prices, Misra had taken on the government for cherry-picking the regulator's recommendations to allow new entrants into the sector.



Misra has deposed as a prosecution witness in the special CBI court hearing the case into the 2G scam.

An alumnus of Allahabad University and Harvard, Mishra had a five-year stint at the IMF in the early 1980s and is known for his impeccable credentials.

Mishra has two daughters and a son. One of his sons-in-law is an IAS officer and the other a lawyer in the Supreme Court. Son Saket became an IPS officer but did not join. He now works in the private sector.
