There is no restrictions of caste or creed in Sabarimala temple unlike certain Hindu temples.
Since the story attributed to Ayyappa prohibits the entry of the women in the menstrual age group, therefore women between the ages of 10 and 50 are not allowed to enter the temple.
This is because Ayyappan was a Bramachari (Celibate).
The temple is open for worship only during the days of Mandalapooja. The pilgrimage begins in the month of November and ends in January.
Sabarimala Sree Ayyappa Temple attracts pilgrims not only from the southern states of India, but also from other parts of the country and abroad.
Except for the first five days of every Malayalam month and during Vishu (April) the temple stays closed during the rest of the year.
