Kisan Mahapanchayat: Farmers insist on MSP law, demand sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra
Despite the prime minister's surprise announcement, farmer leaders have maintained the protesters won't budge until the three contentious laws are formally repealed in Parliament.
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), an umbrella body of farmers' unions, is holding mahapanchayat in Lucknow today to press for a law guaranteeing MSP and the sacking of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, whose son is an accused in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. Despite the prime minister's surprise announcement, farmer leaders have maintained the protesters won't budge until the three contentious laws are formally repealed in Parliament. They have also indicated the sir for a statutory guarantee of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and withdrawal of the Electricity Amendment Bill will continue.
With Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh scheduled to be held early next year, the 'Kisan mahapanchayat' in the state capital has assumed much significance. Farmers are electorally important, particularly in western Uttar Pradesh from where Rakesh Tikiat hails.

BKU leader Rakesh Tikait on Monday said that besides the repealing of the three agri laws, there are many issues of farmers that need to be resolved as a large number of them gathered in Lucknow for a 'Kisan Mahapanchayat' to press their demands for a legal guarantee for MSP, among other things.

Six demands of farmers
The six demands include a law guaranteeing Minimum Support Price (MSP); withdrawal the draft Electricity Amendments Bill, 2020/2021; removal of penal provisions on farmers in the Commission for Air Quality Management in the National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Act 2021; withdrawal of cases against farmers during the agitation; arrest of Union Minister Ajay Mishra in connection with the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri; and compensation to kin of farmers who died during the protest and building a memorial for them at Singhu border.

Farmers announce 'Sansad Chalo' on November 29
The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM), the umbrella body of agitating farm unions, has said that farmers will go ahead with their protests and hold a march to Parliament on November 29 to observe one year of anti-farm law protests. Prime Minister Narendra Modi last week announced that the government will repeal the three farm laws which were at the centre of protests by farmers for the past year.

Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) leader Rakesh Tikait told India TV that the ruling BJP will suffer loses in the upcoming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. Bhartiya Kisan Union (BKU) spokesman Rakesh Tikait said: "The farm reforms being talked about by the government are false and cosmetic. These will not end the plight of the farmers. The biggest reform for the farmers and agriculture will be to make a law guaranteeing minimum support price."
