Bangalore: A Kottayam-based businessman A P Prakash was rendered paralysed after a huge bump threw him off his seat inside a semi-luxury bus, his head hit the ceiling and crashed into a support-pole inside the bus.
The incident took place on September 18. Prakash was travelling from Bangalore to Kottayan in a KSRTC bus, Bangalore Mirror reported.
He was seated in the last row, and in the middle of night, the driver driving the vehicle at 80 kmph, suddenly hit a speed breaker, and Prakash's head hit the ceiling.
He had to undergo a 14-hour spinal surgery a few days ago at the Indo-American Hospital Brain and Spine Centre in Vaikom.
The medical bills went to over Rs 4 lakhs.
Despite knowing about the mishap, the KSRTC is yet to approach the victim and offer help.
Says Dr Anu Thomas, neurosurgeon says, Prakash has suffered a paralysis in four limbs. "There is a severe block in the neck. He is undergoing physiotherapy, but his condition is not good."
