The Kerala government on Thursday banned single-use-plastic products from January 1, 2020. The decision in this regard was taken at a cabinet
meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. After considering environmental and health issues related to mounting plastic waste, the government decided to totally ban single-use-plastic products.
The plastic ban will be applicable on production, sale and storage items. Kerala government has also decided to impose a fine of Rs 10,000 on manufacturers, wholesale or retail dealers that flout the ban under the Environment Protection Act, 1986. Rs 25,000 will be charged for a repeat offence.
