Kochi: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy inaugurated ‘Bhoomigeetham' on Sunday, a musical programme organised by the state government to collect extra funds for the ‘Zero landless' scheme which aims to provide land for the landless people of the state
Thousands of people thronged the Marine Drive to attend the gala event. The tickets for the show varied between Rs 500 to Rs 25,000.
The three-hour-long musical extravaganza was directed by Siddique which featured about 30 foot-tapping and fast-paced old and new Malayalam songs.
According to government officials, 1.5 lakh people out of the 3 lakh applicants have been allotted land under the ‘Zero landless' scheme.
Almost 8,000 acres of land needs to be purchased for the remaining applicants. The government is planning to achieve the target by 2015 end.
