A 5-year-old girl child who had fallen into a 50-feet deep borewell in Haryana's Karnal lost her battle on Monday. She was pulled out of the borewell by a team of the NDRF, nearly 18 hours after she had fallen into the borewell. Shivani was rushed to the hospital soon after she was rescued from the borewell in Karnal. She was declared brought dead in the hospital. According to sources, the girl, Shivani, passed away due to suffocation as she had fallen in an upside-down position.
Shivani had fallen into the borewell in Har Singh Pura village in Gharaunda on Sunday. A team of NDRF was carrying out the rescue operations. The child, identified as Shivani was stuck in an upside position in the borewell and her leg was visible during the rescue operations.
The NDRF team was trying to reach out to the child through a rope.
Shivani had slipped into the borewell belonging to her family while playing in the fields on Sunday, a police official said. After her family realised that she was missing, they launched a search for the child, but then found that she had fallen into the borewell, he said.
The district administration and the police were informed and a rescue operation was launched. Later, the NDRF was also informed, the official said.
Oxygen was being supplied inside the borewell and the rescuers used a camera to check on the child through which they saw her foot. An audio recording of her parents' voice was also played to give her a sense of security, the police said.
