Noted film maker Karan Johar on Friday tendered an apology to MNS chief Raj Thackeray after party activists stopped screening of his new film 'Wake Up Sid' in some cinema halls here, objecting use of word 'Bombay' instead of 'Mumbai' in the movie.
"The film industry henceforth should be careful while taking name of Mumbai in any film," Raj Thackeray told reporters after meeting Johar at the former's residence in central Mumbai.
Raj also said the protest has been withdrawn after Johar's apology and assurance to make the necessary change in the film.
Reacting on the incidence, Karan said, "It was a genuine mistake on our part...henceforth, we will use Mumbai instead of Bombay. We have apologised for the same."
Asked if this was a publicity stunt, Karan said "There are several other marketing platforms for publicity of the film. This was not a publicity stunt."
"We will put a disclaimer in the film (over the name Mumbai, instead of Bombay,)" he said. PTI
