Chennai, May 10 : With just three days left for counting of votes polled in the April 13 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalithaa on Monday returned here after more than a fortnight-long stay in her retreat Kodanadu estate in the hilly Nilgiris District.
Jayalalithaa, who had been staying in Kodanadu since April 19 after a month long hectic poll grind, arrived here by a special flight from Coimbatore.
The former chief minister, aiming for a comeback, had undertaken a whirlwind campaign tour of the state in the elections closely fought between the AIADMK and ruling DMK led fronts.
The results will be announced on May 13.
In a statement, Jayalalithaa advised AIADMK workers to set up free water and buttermilk distribution points for the benefit of public travelling in scorching heat.
"With the model code of conduct being in place on account of the elections, a special request was made to the Election Commission to allow the party to set up 'neer more (butter milk) pandhals and 'refreshment tents'. Now, the EC has granted the permission", Jayalalithaa said in the statement.
With the rising mercury levels, on the basis of "social responsibility" and "humaneness", I appeal to my party cadres to install "neer more (butter milk) pandhal" and "refreshment tent" for the benefit of the public", she added. PTI
