Militants attacked a police party in Gulshan Chowk of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Friday. Two cops were reported dead in the firing, said reports, after they were rushed to the hospital.
The Gulshan Chowk area is being cordoned off, said officials.
The two policemen were identified as Constables Mohd Sultan and Fayaz Ahmad. “Terrorists fired upon a police party at Gulshan Chowk area of Bandipora. In this terror incident, 02 police personnel namely SgCT Mohd Sultan and Ct Fayaz Ahmad got injured and attained martyrdom. Area cordoned off. Further details shall follow,” the police said in a tweet.
Condemning the attack, the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir tweeted, "No words are strong enough to condemn the heinous terrorist attack on our brave JK Police jawans SgCT Mohd Sultan & Ct Fayaz Ahmad at Bandipora. I convey my heartfelt condolences to the families of the martyrs."
