Jammu and Kashmir: 2 teachers killed as terrorists open fire in Srinagar's Eidgah area
Two government school teachers, including a woman, were shot dead by militants in Eidgah area of Srinagar.
Two government school teachers, including a woman, were shot dead by terrorists in the Eidgah area of Srinagar on Thursday. Terrorists fired from close range at two teachers in a government higher secondary school here. Both the teachers died on the spot.
According to police, at about 11:15 am, terrorists shot dead two school teachers. The area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nail the attackers.
"Two teachers killed in a terrorist attack at a government school in the Iddgah Sangam area of Srinagar," the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.
Reports say that the slain teachers are the principal of the school, Supinder Kaur and a Kashmiri Pandit teacher, Deepak Chand.
Today's killings come two days after the terrorists shot a local Pandit, ML Bindroo, a non-local vendor and a taxi driver in Kashmir.
Meanwhile, PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti tweeted that the Centre's claim of 'Naya Kashmir has turned it into a hellhole'. "Disturbing to see the deteriorating situation in Kashmir where a minuscule minority is the latest target. GOI’s claims of building a Naya Kashmir has actually turned it into a hellhole. It’s sole interest is to use Kashmir as a milch cow for its electoral interests," she tweeted.
A total of 25 civilians have been shot dead by militants in targeted-killings this year till date : 10 in Srinagar, 4 in Pulwama, 4 in Anantnag, 3 in Kulgam, 2 in Baramulla, 1 each in Budgam and Bandipora.

The JKPCC expressed grave concern over the rising incidents of selective and targeted killings in Kashmir. JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, vice president Raman Bhalla, general secretaries Yogesh Sawhney and Thakur Manmohan Singh in a joint statememt strongly condemned the gruesome killings of the two school teachers. "It is very unfortunate and highly condemnable and has caused sense of insecurity and fear in the minds of innocent civilians, especially minority community and non-locals," Sharma said.
