Seven months after the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, the government has revoked the ban on social media sites. Internet services were also restored in Jammu and Kashmir. Bharatiya Janata Party's National Secretary Ram Madhav tweeted from his official handle that 2G internet services for postpaid customers have been restored in Jammu and Kashmir.
Internet services were restored after a directive from the Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir. Home Department took the decision after consultation with various agencies. 2G internet services have been restored only for post-paid customers. Fixed-line internet services are also working as per the prevailing conditions prescribed by the government.
Earlier, only access to white-listed sites was allowed after the services were restored for a week on January 25 and subsequently extended from time to time.
The internet facility was snapped across Jammu and Kashmir on August 5 last year, the day when Centre abrogated the special status to the erstwhile state and bifurcated it into two union territories.
The fresh order was issued by Principal Secretary, Home, Shaleen Kabra after assessment of the impact of telecom services regulation on the overall security situation and maintenance of public order and reports of law enforcement agencies.
