Hyderabad: YSR Congress president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, who is on a hunger strike since Sunday against the proposed bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh, was last night shifted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences here from the Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on medical advise.

Jagan was earlier shifted to OGH from Chanchalguda jail when his health deteriorated following the five-day fast.

Doctors at OGH informed the authorities that certain equipment required for emergency treatment were not available, and it would be advisable to shift the Kadapa MP to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS), Deputy Commissioner of Police V Satyanarayana told PTI tonight.  Both OGH as well as NIMS are government-run hospitals.

OGH doctors recommended that Jagan be shifted to NIMS, and accordingly escort was provided by jail authorities for his transfer, Chanchalguda jail superintendent B Saidaiah said.

Earlier today, doctors at OGH had said Jagan continued to refuse to be put on intravenous fluids. His sugar levels had come down, ketone bodies in urine were high and heart rate was low, they said.

Last night police shifted Jaganmohan Reddy from the Chanchalguda jail, where he was lodged since his arrest in a corruption case filed by the CBI, to the state-run OGH amid heavy security.

YSR Congress members have appealed to its president to withdraw his indefinite fast “as the there are many battles to be fought against the insensitive government in the days to come.
