The nation celebrates the birth anniversary of the Rani of Jhansi today (born November 19, 1828-martyred June 18, 1858), but Parliament is yet to get a statue of the war heroine.
A proposal for erecting the statue of Rani of Jhansi was placed before a joint committee of Parliament in 1996, and on May 12, 1996, the proposal was accepted by the committee. But according to rules of Parliament, since no action was taken on this proposal for the next two years, it went into cold storage. This was revealed from an RTI reply sought by Ramesh Raikwar of Lalitpur near Jhansi.
