Mumbai: The swanky new Terminal 2 or T2 of the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport opened by the Prime Minister on Friday will be thrown open to passengers from February 12.The new terminal has been built by GVK-led consortium and the cost of building it is close to Rs 5,500 crore. It has been designed by New York's Skidmore, Owings %26 Merrill LLP (SOM) who have also designed Dubai's Burj Khalifa and Chicago's Willis Tower.Here are some interesting facts to know about this luxurious terminal: With the commissioning of Terminal-2, Mumbai airport has become code F compliant and is ready to handle A380-type aircraft operations, the world's biggest commercial aircraft. This terminal is the country's largest collection of artefacts and works by Indian artists. It is a four storied mega structure that offers 37 travelators, 48 escalators and 72 elevators aid those who fret over rushing to take connecting flights. It has India's tallest airport escalator that stands at 11.6 m. It has 188 check-in counters, 60 immigration counters for departing passengers, and 76 immigration counters for incoming fliers. A multi-level car park has also been built to accommodate 5,000 vehicles. It has 2300 CCTV cameras for passenger safety and 4100 public address speakers. The terminal will have 21,000 square meters of area for retail shopping.
