New Delhi, June 7: The Delhi Government today offered "all support" including bearing the cost of treatment of 51-year-old Raj Bala, who was seriously injured in the police crackdown on Ramdev and his followers on Saturday night.
Health Minister A K Walia and Pawan Khera, Political Secretary to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, visited the woman at the G B Pant Hospital and offered the government's full support to her.
"The Chief Minister had instructed us to visit her. We offered Raj Bala all support including the medical cost of her treatment," Khera said later.
Raj Bala, one of the 71 people injured in crackdown at Ramlila Maidan, in in a critical condition. The Health Minister has asked the doctors attending on her to provide her best medical care. Raj Bala, a resident of Gurgaon, had sustained severe head injuries during the police crackdown at the Ramlila Ground.
Asked specifically what kind of support the Delhi Government would provide to her apart from bearing her medical expenses, Khera only said that government will give her "all possible support".
Senior BJP leader Vijay Kumar Malhotra had yesterday slammed Dikshit for "not uttering" a single word expressing sympathy for the women and children who sustained injuries in the crackdown.
He also criticised Dikshit for not visiting the injured in the hospitals.
On ventilator support in the ICU of G B Pant Hospital, 51-year-old Raj Bala, one of the 71 people injured in the pre-dawn police crackdown at Ramlila Maidan, continues to remain critical for the third day today. Doctors attending on her said she is “conscious, quadriplegic and obeying to simple verbal commands.” However, they said her condition is still critical and she continues to be on ventilator support.
Admitted with spinal injuries to the G B Pant Hospital, this resident of Gurgaon is among the 71 people injured in the crackdown at Ramlila Maidan, where yoga guru Ramdev was holding his indefinite hunger strike. “She is still critical. She underwent a surgery yesterday for the cervical spinal injuries involving C4 and C5. She is quadriplegic. We have done a decompression and fixation using plate, screw and cage,” a doctor with the neurosurgery department said.
Raja Bala is one of the two victims of the Sunday episode at the Ramlila Maidan, who are still undergoing treatment.
Another victim admitted with head injuries is now undergoing treatment at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Hospital.
“Only one patient is admitted with us and the rest have been discharged. He will be discharged as soon as he recovers,” Dr Richa Diwan, medical superintendent, LNJP hospital, said. PTI
