British Prime Minister Boris Johnson met business tycoon Gautam Adani on Thursday and talked about defence tie-ups at Adani global headquarters in Ahmedabad. The Adani Group Chairman Gautam Adani informed about the meeting in a tweet.

“Honoured to host @BorisJohnson, the first UK PM to visit Gujarat, at Adani HQ. Delighted to support climate & sustainability agenda with focus on renewables, green H2 & new energy. Will also work with UK companies to co-create defence & aerospace technologies,” Adani tweeted.

The most important issue of today's meeting between the Chairman of the Adani Group and the Britain Prime Minister was the participation in the defense sector. India has made an investment plan of $300 billion to modernise the army by 2030 and Adani aims to establish India as an export hub in the defense sector by further strengthening OEM capabilities.

The talking point was, under self-reliant India, how the Adani Group and well-known UK companies can work together to design and develop aerospace and defense technology together. By importing more than 300 platforms and equipment, India has conveyed its intention of self-reliance to the world — a step that defense experts said was positive for self-reliance.

Johnson is on a two-day official India visit to India. He landed in Gujarat earlier today and was accorded a grand welcome at the airport in Ahmedabad.
