Mumbai: During their investigation of the murder of Sheena Bora, Mumbai police have discovered that Indrani Mukherjea gave a donation of Rs 10 lakh to Kolkata's famous Kali temple before carrying out the heinous act.
Indrani was a Kali devotee and used to visit the temple every year.
Indrani Mukerjea, wife of former CEO of Star India Peter Mukerjea, was arrested on August 25 on the suspicion of killing her daughter Sheena Bora, allegedly in April 2012. Her body was then taken to Raigad forest, 85 km from Mumbai where it was burned and buried.
Her driver Shyam Rai and ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna are also under arrest for their alleged roles in the murder and disposing of the body.
Police have also found that Indrani sent several lakhs of rupees to her ex-husband and accomplice in the murder, Sanjeev Khanna, via hawala operators. The police have identified these operators and taken their statements.
In fact Indrani also sent money to her son Mikhail Bora once he fled Mumbai and returned to Guwahati. This was to ensure that he would not make any enquiries following Sheena's disappearance.
The Mumbai police are also planning to interrogate Indrani's husband, Peter Mukherjea, once again. So far the police have combed through more than 15 national and international bank accounts of Indrani and Peter during their probe into the money transaction trail.
According to sources, Indrani deleted a lot of data from her laptop and mobile phone following the murder. However, the police's special cyber and forensic expert team has been successful in recovering most of it.
After the remains of Sheena's body were found in May 2012, JJ hospital made a forensic report but this subsequently went missing. The hospital has said that the report was handed over to the police in November 2013. Some sources suggest that this report may have finally been located but there is no confirmation of it yet.
