Bhubaneswar, Mar 2: India successfully tested its indigenously-built multi-barrel rocket launcher ‘Pinaka' from a defence base in Odisha for the second consecutive day Friday, an official said.
The multi-barrel rocket launching system was tested from the Proof and Experimental Establishment (PXE) in Chandipur-on-sea in Balasore district, around 230 km from state capital Bhubaneswar.
“During today's test, two rounds of rockets were fired successfully,” a senior PXE official told IANS.
Capable of firing 12 rockets in a single salvo with 1.2 tonnes of high explosives within 40 seconds, the Pinaka system has already been inducted into the armed forces and was used in the field during the 1999 Kargil war.
Earlier, three rounds of rockets were launched successfully Thursday from the same base.
Scientists conducted the exercise as part of routine evaluation test, the official said.
