Thedepartment is waiting for Sex Baba alias Bengali Baba to be released. About Rs 1.1 crore was seized from his hideout house at Kalyan. Also, cops now suspect Baba's nationality.
Last week, Jainul Abidin Shaikh, alias Menhadi Kasam alias Bengali baba aged 37, was arrested by the JJ Marg police for raping seven girls, including a maid. In the same week, Dr Chhering Dorje, deputy commissioner of police (DCP) informed that police raided a house at Chaudhary Mohalla in Kalyan (W), which the Baba had been renting. Police had seized diamond and gold ornaments worth around Rs 14 lakh and cash over Rs 87 lakh. The total seizure was worth Rs 1.01 crore. The currency notes and ornaments were hidden in a small wooden cupboard. The victim's family also alleged that Baba had extorted more that 2 crores from them.
"It is true that we are keeping an eye on Baba's Rs 1.01 crores but it is too early. He is now under police custody and the entire amount that was seized from his home has been deposited in the court. Once Baba gets bail we will catch him," said a top I-T officer on condition of anonymity. According to IT officials, the tax department plans to deduct 30 per cent from the amount seized as Baba can point to no source of income.
Sex Baba will be in police custody till December 7 and has now been booked for forging his passport and election card. Police informed that they are yet to ascertain whether baba is an Indian national and are currently investigating his background.
This sensational rape case came to light last week after an 18-year-old victim registered a complaint with police. The victim told the police that Baba had been raping seven girls including four minors and her maid for years, forcing them to undergo abortions when they became pregnant.
